Subject: 2024 Underhill Society of America Annual Fund Drive
Dear Member of the Underhill Family:
As a member of the Underhill family, your direct connection to the family’s history and genealogy is through the Underhill Society of America, Inc. The Underhill name can be found in many important aspects of North American history, and our forebears were located and influential throughout the many regions of the United States and Canada.
The Underhill Society of America supports important individual initiatives and long-term projects that ensure the collection and preservation of Underhill family histories and memorabilia, as well as the tracing of Underhill family genealogies. Your membership in the Society and your support for the Annual Fund Drive make this work possible.
Projects include the Underhill Archives, located in Oyster Bay, NY, which feature unique documents, personal written family histories, and Underhill artifacts. Since last year, important Underhill historical artifacts have been found and purchased by the Society. Two circa 1930 diaries belonging to our Society founder, David Harris Underhill, which include mention of Society meetings, genealogy work, as well as other historical information. Also acquired was a 1909 William Gibson Hickory Wood Shaft Golf Club made for and sold by Lee & Underhill, a NYC sporting goods store owned by Gardiner Fleet Underhill in partnership with Harry Lee. Underhill family photos and artifacts were donated by family members. The Archives are managed by a professional archivist and are available for review by Underhill family members and by external researchers. Additionally, the Society publishes a newsletter, The News & Views, and an annual educational publication, The Bulletin, which features articles about historic events and/or Underhill family members.
Additionally, your support also helps our collaborative historical events held throughout the year, educating and celebrating the important events which occurred in the Oyster Bay vicinity, and, notably, the Underhill family's role in them.
The Society’s genealogists are continually tracing and cataloging the many branches of the Underhill family tree. This work is especially important as they continue genealogical research and editing to complete the 9th, 10th, and 11th volumes of the Underhill Genealogywhich will be the most comprehensive and authoritative Underhill Genealogy available. Its publication is tentatively planned for 2025. A professional indexer is currently working on it also. The Board of the Underhill Society is currently considering publishing options of this important work.
The Board of the Underhill Society asks for your donation to the 2024 Annual Fund Drive to support the work on Volumes 9 to 11 of the Underhill Genealogy, to maintain and continue the expansion of the Underhill Archives, and to release the Society’s publications.
Donations can be made directly by check, or by electronic means through PayPal or credit card. Instructions are attached. Be assured that 100% of your donation will go to support the ongoing work of your Underhill Society of America, Inc.
